Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to and use of the website. Opening a page, reading its material, or submitting a search means that you accept all terms stated here. If you disagree with any condition, stop using the site.

NO FCRA USE. This is a privately operated website with no connection to a local, state, or federal government body. Neither the site nor its advertising partners offers a service intended for credit decisions, employment screening, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, or another purpose regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The material helps readers locate criminal-record resources in Ashe County and North Carolina. We are neither a private investigation business nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site that operates independently of government. We neither possess official criminal files nor obtain records, perform official background checks, or submit filings for a visitor.

The material directs readers to Ashe County record custodians, including the sheriff and criminal courts, as well as the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Information and Identification Section and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Access to government records may be governed by the North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, court-record statutes, and confidentiality rules. Links may also connect visitors to separate third-party research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of use, you must not:

  • Violate federal, North Carolina, or local law through the site
  • Use site information to threaten, follow, intimidate, or harass a person
  • Rely on site content for hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt to enter systems, accounts, or areas without authorization
  • Deploy a bot, scraper, crawler, or other automated collection tool
  • Interfere with performance or prevent another visitor from gaining access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

You may not use material found here or through a linked tool to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also be criminal. North Carolina places special limits on misuse of information from the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Registry access supports public safety awareness; it does not authorize vigilantism, blacklisting, or discriminatory treatment.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency as the FCRA defines that term. No background check, credit report, or other consumer report is created here. Our advertising partners likewise do not offer tools through this site for evaluating job applicants, rental applicants, insurance risk, or credit. Information from the site or a linked tool must not be used to:

  • Make an employment or termination decision
  • Evaluate a prospective tenant or other housing applicant
  • Assess credit or establish an insurance premium
  • Decide eligibility for a license, permit, or public benefit
  • Carry out any other activity governed by the FCRA

When a lawful purpose requires a qualifying background check, use an authorized North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. Descriptions of Ashe County criminal records cannot determine how a warrant, charge, conviction, or expunction law applies to a particular set of facts. Seek advice from a North Carolina-licensed attorney for that analysis.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." We make no promise that:

  • Any item will always be current, accurate, or complete
  • Access will remain continuous or free from interruption
  • Pages will contain no defect, software error, or security weakness
  • An outside search provider will return complete or correct results

Criminal records can change when a charge is filed, amended, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Updates and omissions are therefore possible despite reasonable maintenance efforts. No statement here is an official representation by a court, sheriff, or other government agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to sheriff pages, court portals, North Carolina agencies, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination is beyond our control. We accept no responsibility for an external provider's content, privacy practices, charges, accuracy, or availability. Review its terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Ashe County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. They may not be copied, redistributed, altered, or used to create derivative material without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for harm arising from site use, including reliance on information obtained here or through an external service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by your site use or violation of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

North Carolina law governs these terms, including applicable protections such as G.S. 75-1.1. Any dispute arising from use of the site must be brought in a court located in North Carolina.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these conditions at any time. A revised version becomes effective when it is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force. The affected provision will be narrowed only as far as needed to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
